Homeland Security Then and Now

Here is some food for thought:

What do you think these guys would have to say about our outrage at having our way of life threatened and being attacked on our own land? Please don't get me wrong... I love this country and enjoy our way of life as much as the next guy, but I got to thinking about our natural tendancy toward hipocracy. So as I was pondering on this, I decided to put the idea out there for your thoughts and ideas...

  1. Well I think they would say we are all hypocrites! We invaded this country and took over, and kept moving them to crappier and crappier land until really we left them with nothing. I don't believe they would have any sympathy for us. I don't think they would care, except for maybe the possibility that they would get their homes back.

  2. Are you talking about terrorist attacks or immigration?

  3. Why not get their homes back? it´s their right isn´t it? At least each family should have their own "piece" of fertile land whatever they wanted to do with it later on!

  5. Either terrorism OR immigration, our own conquest of this nation could be viewed in the same light... I think it is important to own our hypocrisy... Self-awareness is required for self-improvement...

  6. Of course, I agree that the original invasion of this country was ignorant and violent. I think the question, however, has as much to do with Christianity as it does anything else. Europeans come to this land and realize that the only people here are savages, who are not Christian, which by their definition, is a savage. So, it was easy for them to do what they did because it was no different than penning or pushing around animals to them. The further away from Christianity I get, the I realize how often this occurs in the world, not only back then, but today. Look at all the countries around the world who have "domesticated" by England or Europe, under the guise of Christianity, but in reality, they saw what they wanted and needed and took it. So many people have died in the name of religious beliefs, when in reality, those people were using religion as a disguise or facemask and underneath it all was greed and the need for personal gain. Ah, such a lovely faith it is.

  7. Another case in point??? Iraq. Senior Bush, in his Christian beliefs, felt that Iraq would be better off under our domestication than letting it alone. Nigeria. India. South Africa. Mexico. South America. Should I go on? All of these nations have much in common with us. They were all domesticated by European colonization. Don't forget Australia.

We're not so unique, I guess.

  8. Key point Jason - Self Awareness is required for self-impovement

This is a great discussion...one that I have always thought has interestesing twist - history does repeat itself....over and over again - I am not sure that hypocrisy is the word I would use...must gather thoughts on this one!! Good Topic

  9. Thanks for your thoughts... I raised this question with very little pre-conceived opinion personally. I appreciate the insight shared by all. The only conclusion that I have come to with this particular subject is that we seem to all be inherently selfish or egocentric. Our nation was founded by a group of people who desired freedom or amnesty from the manipulation and control of the Catholic Church and the King of England. Yet, our ideals were considered superior over the natives of this country. To the point that we took away their way of life, colonized the land, and fought and killed them if they resisted. So that being said, how much good came from the development and rise of this great nation? Where would we be without the industrial revolution, or the technological innovator that we have become? Interesting how outraged we have become when the shoe is on the other foot, so to speak. The tragedy surrounding 9/11 could so easily be compared to and number of "Indian Wars" fought during the colonization of this country. Again our outrage comes only from having the action performed against us. I would hope that the tragedy of 9/11 would help us to better empathize and understand our own impact on others. Again self awareness is required for self-impovement. So it is a very difficult subject... albeit a very interesting topic for sure!!
